We needed to be in Kuala Lumpur over the weekend in May. Initially we’ve booked the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur which we stayed a few times and have had good experience with. I think that the 12,000 Hyatt points a night redemption is totally worth it but that’s not the point of the discussion today.
There were three Hilton properties in Kuala Lumpur with the fourth one coming up soon. We thought maybe we should just do a Hilton hotel hop since we have 3 nights to play with. After looking at the rates, we decided to cancel our Hyatt reservation and proceed to stay at the following hotels:
- Hilton Petaling Jaya – 1 night
- DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur – 1 night
- Hilton Kuala Lumpur – 1 night
We started our Kuala Lumpur journey with Hilton Petaling Jaya. The main entrance of the Hilton PJ had that 80-90s hotel feeling. You learned to manage your expectation when entering such properties.
Hilton Petaling Jaya – Details

The guest rooms, executive lounge, ballroom and meeting space were last refreshed in December 2012 and the property now has 554 guest rooms.

Hilton Petaling Jaya – Location
Hilton’s official website claims that:
Hilton PJ is set in the commercial district near popular shops and just 15 minutes from Kuala Lumpur, Hilton Petaling Jaya is a prime setting for exploring Malaysia. Walk to the Light Rail Transit station, and reach KUL Airport in 45 minutes.
This will strictly be dependant on the traffic condition. If you are in Kuala Lumpur for sightseeing, my suggestion is to stay at either DoubleTree by Hilton in Kuala Lumpur or the more luxury Hilton Kuala Lumpur. Hilton PJ is a bit far from KL Tower or the KLCC Twin Towers.
However, since Grab and uBer have constant promotional code, going to and from Hilton PJ were actually not too expensive. I remember our most expensive ride costed RM10 (~SGD3.30) for a 9km ride.
There is an Indian-Muslim restaurant if you needed some good local food. Go for Fried Noodle, mind you it is a bit spicy. We went there around 11pm for supper and it was crowded.
Since the hotel is far from the city centre, some people may like this. This hotel is definitely not as busy as the DoubleTree and Hilton KL. During the chat with the associate who checked me in. He mentioned that often guests from the other two Hilton hotels will be directed here due to overbooking.
Hilton Petaling Jaya – Check in
The check-in was smooth, without queue. The associate, Norman, greeted and thanked me for being a Diamond member and also provided me his name card asking me to contact him if I needed anything.
We booked a King Guest Room and was assigned the King Executive Room Plus. Norman did not positioned this as an upgrade and upon entering into the room, I did not think it was an upgrade either. He also invited us to the evening cocktail session at the Executive Lounge and let us know that we could have our complimentary breakfast at the restaurant the next day.
Hilton Petaling Jaya – King Executive Room Plus
Our room was located on the 19th floor located not too far away from the lift.
Upon entering the room, the bathroom was on the left of the walkway while the closet and minibar were on our right.
The King sized bed was comfortable, our experience with Hilton beds have been quite positive. The LCD TV served only a few English Channel, we spent the next morning watching the minions on one of the channels.
The gadgets beside the bed had our attention for a bit. The classic telephone and one button radio must have been there are at least 20 years! It reminded us of the late 90s! We did not call anyone using the phone but the one-button push radio was convinient! We did listened to some tunes, the radio was loud for its size!
A welcome fruit platter was placed on the coffee table in our the room. There was only a chair for the coffee table, I think it could easily feed another chair.
Upon entering the bathroom, a bath tub was located on the right side together with a blind which you may want to shut when you are taking a shower if you are not staying alone.
Peter Thomas Roth toiletries were provided. You get the usual shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and a body lotion. I liked their body lotion. The size of their shower gel bottle makes a good travel bottle too! Two bartrobes were available too.
Hilton Petaling Jaya – Gym & Pool
The gym was located at the lobby level and was equipped with a lot of machines. This is one of the most comprehensive gym facilities that we have seen in hotels. There is even a dedicated yoga room.
The pool on the other hand is more of a fun pool, I could imagine that it would be crowded if there is more than 10 people in it. It’s small. You can’t really swim laps in it.
Hilton Petaling Jaya – Breakfast
Breakfast was served from 6.30am to 10.30am during the weekend. The restaurant was located at the lobby level. It was spacious and served a good spread of food.
You get a big selection of salads and pastries. Kids would love the cornflakes and waffle areas. Chocolate sauce and honey were available!
Hot Asian food such as braised chicken and Indian Tosai were available for order. It is always a plus to have curry and Tosai in the morning in Malaysia.
Don’t forget to try their Nasi Lemak with sambal and fried fish too.
Try the rice cube pastry, local fried noodle and the rendang duck if you want to eat like a Malaysian. I’ll let the photos do the talking for now.
Hilton Petaling Jaya – Overall Impression
Spending a night here to see the different part of the city is alright, I’m not really sure if I’d stay here longer if I’m here to explore the city, which was probably also a reason we moved to DoubleTree by Hilton at the heart of Kuala Lumpur the next day.
There was not much to explore around here. Our room was alright, we got exactly what we paid for, without an upgrade. We do liked food served at the evening cocktail session at the Executive Lounge. Breakfast was decent too without any situation apart from their coffee could be much better.

Pretty boring hotel, pool is too small. I won’t stay here unless I have something to do in Petaling Jaya,
